About cynthia sciberras photography

M y curiosity about human nature and eagerness to learn more about the human psyche is why I first set out taking photographs.  My first camera, and best mate was a second-hand analogue Canon AE1, purchased at Portobello Markets in London for £20 whilst living and travelling around Europe in the early 90's.

Born in Melbourne, my first creative pursuit was in the world of fashion as a designer, and concurrently studying for a Diploma of Classical Dance.  Later l led creative roles within marketing and communications after completing Marketing qualifications, and worked within the arts and large corporations before taking up photography full time.

Photography has always been a passion and is my way of questioning and exploring our world. My subtle approach is to create images that reflect the essence and realness of a particular moment with a certain photojournalistic style.

In my personal projects, my camera has been the object that has allowed me into peoples’ worlds, where I get to patiently watch and wait for them to allow my camera in. My main interest lies in humans and the way we interact and live, exploring topics around community, relationships, gender and religion.

It’s no surprise then that my passion for people has led me to specialising in portraiture, in-studio or on-location, headshots, yoga portraiture, family, pregnancy, children, and even animals.   My studio is based in East Sydney and I’m available for freelance for events, PR and festivals nationally.

When I’m not photographing, I spend time living in Sydney with my partner and much loved handsome deaf albino cat, and enriched by my daily practice of Ashtanga Yoga.
